SUICIDE IS A VAST EPIDEMIC

Every four minutes someone in the UK tries to take their own life; every 90 minutes someone in the UK succeeds.

In 2019, 5,691 people took their own lives in the UK. That is equivalent to the capacity of roughly 15 jumbo jets.

SUICIDE IS PREVENTABLE

The majority of people who attempt suicide but survive are grateful to have survived and regret their original decision.

9 out of 10 people who attempt suicide but survive will not die from suicide in the future.

SUICIDE IS SHATTERING

Suicide bereavement is often associated with intense feelings of guilt, shame, isolation, and anger. It is different to other forms of bereavement.

It is estimated that 135 people are impacted by each suicide.

SUICIDE IS COMPLEX & MISUNDERSTOOD

Experts are calling for improved data and research into risk factors and high-risk groups.

For example, more research is needed to understand the transition from thinking about suicide to attempting suicide.

There is still stigma around suicide and people are unwilling or unable to talk openly about emotional health.
